Welcome to Briar’s daily journal. This is where Briar writes about everything she learns daily, mostly for her own personal record. Never stop learning ♥

I had a 5-hour shift at work this afternoon. The first 30 minutes was the wildest 30 minutes I have ever worked.
I was at the self-checkouts, and there’s only four stations.
Long story short, three people needed my help with difficult things all at the same time, and each required me to call different departments in the store.
It was quite a half hour!
This is a random customer interaction I had today:
Me: “Have a great rest of your day!”
Old man: “NO!”
Me: “🙂?”
Old man: “Don’t tell people to have a great rest of their day, tell them to have a great rest of their life! I’d much rather have a great rest of my life.”
Me: “Oh, have a great rest of your life.”
Old man: “Thanks.”
A lady walked past me with a shirt that said “taxidermy” on it. It got me thinking about taxidermy. Here are some fun facts:
Early taxidermy was done with rags and sawdust
Captain James Cook used taxidermy on his expeditions
In 1798, the first platypus specimen was thought to be a taxidermy of a made-up creature
The first taxidermy competition was in 1880
One of the earliest ways to preserve animals was with arsenic. When Theodore Roosevelt was a teenager, he tried to purchase a pound of arsenic for taxidermy. He wrote this in his journal: “I was informed that I must bring a witness to prove that I was not going to commit murder, suicide, or any such thing, before I could have it!”
The Lion of Gripsholm Castle is a historic taxidermy that has been mocked for centuries! A lion was given to King Frederick I of Sweden and was one of the first lions ever in Scandinavia. When it died the king had it stuffed. A theory is that the taxidermists never saw a living lion before so they weren’t sure what they looked like…
After work, I bought a box of Chicken in a Biskit. Here is a 1-minute video of me trying it for the first time:
Lastly, I dug out all of my seeds to take an inventory… I have 316 packets. 316! I’m going to make a donation to my library because they have an awesome free seed bank.
Shh, don’t tell anyone, but some of the seeds may have come from that free seed bank…
How many seeds do you guys have?👀
